Walt Disney’s brilliant use of Paul Dukas’ evocative concert piece, ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ grew out of a chance encounter, in a Los Angeles restaurant, between Disney and the legendary conductor, Leopold Stokowski.  The resulting animated concert, ‘Fantasia’, was a masterpiece that changed our ideas about music and movies, forever. In this program, which features, by popular demand, the return of soprano Sara Heaton, now singing with the Metropolitan Opera, a chamber version of Dukas’ work is paired with powerful music by some of the greatest composers of film, opera and theater scores, Verdi, Korngold and Morricone.
