featuring guest strings from orpheus & a far cry
August 8th at 7:30 pm at the Sugar Hill Meeting House
August 9th at 4 pm at the Mountain View Grand Resort
Symmetry celebrates the beauty of form in a gorgeous, scintillating concert of string music from around the world. From the concert program, to the structure of each piece, to the craftsmanship of each of our instruments, you will encounter the wonder of symmetry throughout.
The electric energy of Osvoldo Golijov's Last Round brings us into a warring feud between teams of tango dancers, while Foote's Night Piece & Scherzo delivers us back to sweet lyricism. In his Concertino, Bright Sheng follows Bartok's example of collecting folk tunes as his compositional inspiration, but searches for his sources in Northern China. Finally, Max Bruch's lush, German Romantic tour de force for string octet brings us home with hot-blooded emotion to spare.
As our annual concert in memory of Fritz & Eleonore Kramer and their dedication to music, our special guests string players for this concert are colleagues from the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and A Far Cry families -- musical homes to many of the chamber players. We are thrilled to bring them to the North Country for this cross-pollination of fantastic string playing, and cannot wait to share this very special collaboration with you.
